tom_widdows
So starting to get the final line up. Qualfied so far England-shire Czech Republic Ukraine Spain Sweden Poland France Turkey Belgium Russia Italy Finland (First ever major finals) Possible teams for automatic qualification Portugal or Serbia (Probably Portugal as they are away to Luxembourg in final game) 2 from (Netherlands, Germany or Northern Ireland) 2 from (Denmark, Switzerland or Rep. of Ireland) 2 from (Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia or Wales) 1 from (Austria, North Macedonia, Slovenia or Israel) Current Playoff contendors Group A: Iceland, 2 from (Bulgaria/Israel/Romania), 1 from (Wales/Slovakia/Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland) Group B: Bosnia and Herzegovina, 3 from (Wales/Slovakia/Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland) Group C: Scotland, Norway, Serbia, 1 from (Bulgaria/Israel/Romania) Group D: Georgia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Belarus Teams in Bold are guaranteed a playoff spot Some places will be determined by a random draw At the moment Scotland and Norway are best ranked teams in group C so will have home draws in the semi finals. Have to say I'm hoping for Bulgaria in the Semis
donsdaft
Even as this reaches it's final stages, I still haven't a clue how the whole thing works. No chance Scotland are beating the likes of Romania though.
tom_widdows
Easy Scotland have one more competitive home game. Then we wait about 6months till the next one

manc_don
3-1 win against the kazakhs.
tom_widdows
According to BBC if by some miracle Scotland qualify we would be put in the same group as England-shire and have to play them at wembley with the 2 other group games at hampden. However there is some 'disclaimer' if Hungary or Romania end up in the group C playoffs which states the winner of the Group C would actually be put into two finals groups with the final group place being decided by a random draw. This is because there would be two host nations in the same play off group. Same scenario seems to be possible in the Group A and B playoffs. Playoff format not exactly kind to the fans given there is a 5 day gap between the semis and finals leading to some expensive travel for the 'away' nations
Jute
Draw for the play offs is Friday. Apparently we will know who we are playing and if we are at home or away for the final after that all though not quite sure even UEFA understand how this whole play off thing is going to work. donsdaft
Let's face it. Especially UEFA don't understand how the play offs are going to work. I thought Hungary were out. They certainly deserve to be after that performance last night. Hajra Magyarol

tlg1903
Russia could be banned from Olympics and Euro 2020 over drug anomalies https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/nov/18/russia-ban-olympics-euro-2020-drug-anomalies?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard

tom_widdows
We'd like to think so but I bet they give it to Iceland given they are the only Group A team not to qualify automatically. St Petersburg stadium potentiually changed to Millenium Stadium rather than stockholm as the former has slightly larger capacity that the russian venue. Stockholm stadium would see 14000 seats per match lost
Guest kiriakovisthenewstrachan
So Scotland v Israel in the semi of the play off and if we fluke our way past that one it is an away tie in Norway or Serbia...............then England at Wembley in the finals. Could be a nice quiet all Irish affair in Belfast in one of the other play off finals.
Jute
Beat Israel in the nations league at Hampden so would like to think we will beat them again. Don’t think we have any chance of winning in either Oslo or Belgrade.
Madbadteacher
I thought we couldn’t play an opponent from our group again in the playoff?

Jute
If by some fluke Scotland qualify we are in with England Croatia and Czech Republic.
wee toon red
From the moment UEFA announced this nonsense about 12 countries or whatever "sharing" the finals, Euro 2020 has been the most shambolic tournament in history. If we are ever to qualify for a finals again it would be typical Scotland to make it to this one, which will undoubtedly be the worst one ever. Kowalski
So, Russia banned. To quote CtS’s wife, are we slipping in through the back door?

Tyrant
Vintage Scotland. Even when our opponents are banned we still find a way to not qualify. Reminds me of the RWC in Japan. We were at risk of getting knocked out at the hands of a cancelled game and we huffed and puffed about it. The game eventually goes ahead but we still manage to see our way to getting papped oot. Even when the number of teams at tournaments is increased we'll still find a way to not qualify because we're failures and it's what we do.
