SPFL strike £700,000 deal with BBC for Championship games

SPFL strike £700,000 deal with BBC for Championship games... but most of the cash will go to top-flight clubs. The winners of this season's SPFL Premiership stand to earn 13..4 per cent of the overall prize pot - meaning they could earn almost 12 times what some Championship sides make.

All the money generated from these matches should be shared out to the Championship clubs only. Why should the winner of the Scottish Premiership get the extra cash.

What a fucking joke  ::)

Only in Scottish football unfortunately.

So clubs whose matches are shown live can actually probably expect to lose money by the time you factor in reduced footfall through the gates unless I'm mistaken.

I'm just going to pish myself laughing.

No point getting angry.

I give up with the world.

Good to see some domestic football on council TV.

As for the financial distribution, I’ll reserve judgement seeing as this is a Daily Mail story.

Classic Daily Mail article. Bereft of logic and fact. Before we all start getting outraged, could someone work out the actual split their entitled to of the full TV pot, versus the amount they'd get if they just shared out Championship only tv revenues? For example, if they currently get 5% of the existing TV pot, then they'd be entitled to about £1.1M per season versus the £700K they'd get if all this money went to them. Basically, if they get anything more then 3.5% of the existing TV deal, then they're quids in. Would it have been that difficult for this spastic newspaper to look it up and tell us?

Last year they were given 12.05% of £23.7M prize fund. If that was the same this season then they'll get 12.05% of £24.4M, or £2.94M. Versus £700K. I think I know what I'd take.

Also notice that the SPFL has set up new overseas TV deal with Qatar-based beIN SPORTS.

Neil Doncaster said: "Work is continuing to ensure as many fans of Scottish football around the world are able to watch matches from the Ladbrokes Premiership, the Betfred Cup and the Irn-Bru Cup this season."

No figures have been revealed on how much revenue the new the overseas package will generate for the SPFL.
