🔴⚪️ Come on you Reds! ⚪🔴

Talk is cheap

And today's mouthpiece is Jonny Hayes.

When will they ever learn to just do their talking on the park.

Seriously pisses me off, all this spouting off in the media

Jonny Hayes today warned the Dons will not settle to be only second best in Scotland.

With Celtic’s huge lead at the top of the Premiership, the Reds’ battle is for second spot this season.

However, Hayes insisted Aberdeen will not accept scrapping it out to be the best of the rest in future years.

Hayes, who started the 0-0 draw with St Johnstone, aims to be competing with Celtic in a title scrap again and reckons boss Derek McInnes will find the players to achieve that for future campaigns.

The Republic of Ireland cap said: “We are never going to settle for just wanting to finish second in the league.

“You have to be realistic and realise Celtic have pulled away now and barring a miracle I don’t think anyone is going to catch them

“However, we want to progress every year and get better, hit better points targets and win silverware.

“We aim to keep improving and the manager will gradually bring in better players year after year to improve the squad to be better equipped in terms of the right end of the league table.

“It shows how far we have come that we are disappointed at drawing against a St Johnstone side with a pedigree in Europe.

“And we are disappointed at not being second in the league when four years ago we finished ninth.”

Aberdeen now trail second-placed Rangers by four points. That gap can be narrowed tomorrow as the Reds play their game-in-hand, against Motherwell at Pittodrie.

Hayes said: “It will be like a cup game as Mark McGhee will have his troops fired up and they have some good players.

“I caught some of their match against Celtic (4-3 loss) and Motherwell did well in patches.

“Our target was three wins from three from the current run of home games but obviously we can’t do that now.

“Against St Johnstone, we tried to throw men forward in the latter stages to get three points but left ourselves a little exposed.

“You have got to do that as we were never happy to settle for just a point.

“Sometimes when you are pushing so hard for a win, and it doesn’t come off, it feels almost like a loss.

“But if we beat Motherwell then maybe we will look back and say it has not been such a bad week.

“However, we will have to be at the top of our game to get a win.”

Can't see the point of criticising players for anodyne stuff like this.

They will be told they are representing the club and can't just tell the Press to fuck off as no doubt many would prefer to do. The media have ways of getting their revenge on clubs and players who don't make their jobs easy (unless they operate out of Mordor and are deemed by senior staff as being too important to kick).  They will be fed leading questions by reporters. They will be told by the club to be unremittingly positive and offer no hostages to fortune.

"So Johnny, realistically all a club like Aberdeen can't win the league and will have to settle for second at best in future years".  Headline sought: "Aberdeen's Hayes admit the club will never win the league".  Hayes, defusing that, "No we'll be looking to win it in future".  Instructions followed, job done.

??? ??? ???

Fuck sake Jonny, I hope you are not insinuating that we are maybe being a bit harsh being disappointed with only an absolutely bore fest of a fucking goalless draw, at home, where we scored 5 only 4 days earlier, are you?

On the other hand, at least he's not accepting that Sevco are favourites for 2nd  :-\
