Robson to Ross County?

Ross County chairman Roy MacGregor has played down speculation Aberdeen midfielder Barry Robson is set to become the club’s new player-manager.

One bookmaker has suspended betting on the 35-year-old being named as Derek Adams’ successor at Victoria Park, and although MacGregor spoke of his admiration for the former Scotland international, he insisted the former Scotland international has not been discussed by the board.

MacGregor said: “I don’t think that’ll happen. Barry has certainly not applied for it – we will put the job description out early this week.

“I like Barry, he’s probably coming towards the end of his career at Aberdeen. However it’s not a name that has been mentioned to me.”

County interim manager Stevie Ferguson is in the dark about his future, but could be in charge for the next two weeks as County have no game next weekend because of the international break.

Ferguson took charge of the Staggies team for Saturday’s 4-0 defeat against Hamilton at New Douglas Park but does not know what the Victoria Park board plan to do, and will be fully focused on his role of caretaker until told otherwise.

A loan move for former County attacker Michael Gardyne from Dundee United could be completed today and Ferguson said: “I don’t know who’s coming in, and I don’t know what the plan is. That’s for other people to decide and they’ll be working on that at the moment.

“I genuinely don’t know what will happen, but I’ll be reporting in this week as normal and I’ve no doubt I’ll be told when everybody else is.

“We’ve heard lots of names banded about. I tend not to listen or read too much into any of that and I’ll just wait to see what happens.”

Ferguson praised the role of captain Richard Brittain and vice-captain Scott Boyd, who have assisted the County caretaker manager in training.

He added: “We rely heavily on our senior players.”
