Really, wtf?

Why in god's name are we starting the season in August by which time most our teams will be out of Europe? That's almost a 3 month summer break, half the SPL players will be Mark Yardley-esque by then.

And yet again we have Sellick swanning off to feather there already well padded nest with a fucking friendly.  Does any other league in the world allow pre-season friendlies to take precedence over League games.

SPL Press Release ~ Season 2013/14 start date

 

The SPL Board today announced that Season 2013/14 will start on Saturday 3 August.

 

At a recent meeting, the Board also agreed to allow Clubs the option to request a postponement of their SPL fixture to play a friendly on the weekend of August 10. The only Club to submit a request was Celtic FC.

 

That request was granted and Celtic FC’s Home SPL game that weekend will therefore be postponed.

Do they even look at the uefa calander before deciding this?

 

 

 

UEFA Cup qualifying round 2: 18th/25th July - 2nd and 3rd from SPL

 

UEFA Cup Qualifying round 3: 1st/8th August - Cup Winners

 

 

 

European Cup 2nd Qualifying round: 16–17 July and 23–24 July

 

 

 

So everyone could effectively be out by the time the season starts?!

 

presumably this is to avoid the same last minute scramble as last year to work out what rangers/the rangers/sevco/newco's parachuting into a different league entails.

We cant have summer football because all our clubs would suffer in the last rounds of the euro competitions you know.

After all the spl is a major force in world football you know and no teams ever won a european trophy playing in a summer season......

Agree with all you say, apart from the Tattie Muncher part......if a league organisation is fucking corrupt stupid enough to allow club's to cancel a game in favour of a friendly after the season has started then surely all clubs should be thinking opportunity for a quick buck, therefore if ourselves and the other ten in the SPL are too fucking stupid to take advantage then hell mend us.

Does this mean our season won't be over until January next year?

Still think whoever had the idea (think it was someone on here a year or two ago) that everyone should ask for their first game with Celtic to be postponed, then they wont play until Oct/Nov time or something stupid. If they continually screw the league about to make even more money than every other club rather than play in the league they are meant to then we should screw them back. This happening each year royally fucks me off. Theres plenty time for fans to cause a stir and get there clubs to do it... For the sheer hilarity of it if anything else

Because we cant afford to invite a decent club and no one would bother turning up to watch it
