‘Missing out on move to Aberdeen FC was big regret’

Jim McInally reveals his Pittodrie heartache

PETERHEAD boss Jim McInally today spoke for the first time about the day his dream move to Aberdeen FC ended in tears.

The Dundee United legend opened his heart on what was the lowest point of his career.

“Not getting the chance to play for Aberdeen was definitely one of the biggest disappointments I’ve had in football,” he said.

I seem to remember him getting unveiled but what happened after that?

I also remember that nobody seemed to lose any sleep over him not signing.

United pulled the plug on it saying we couldn't agree a fee I think.

There were rumours of him failing a medical too.

McInally wasn't a bad player, he was just not really good enough to play for us at the time. Would have been around the early 90s i think; in saying all that, i'd have taken him ahead of Paul Kane who was hellish.

According to wikipedia we were meant to be sending Peter hetherson to united in exchange but Hetherston failed the medical.

I always thought he pulled the plug and went off to be player manager somewhere

Was it really as late in the 90s as that? Jesus. The old memory isn't what it was.

Hetherston was ding, too, right enough.

In the full article in the paper he said it was because Hetherston failed the medical.
