A DEAL to sell Rangers Football Club to Scots venture capitalist Craig Whyte will go though by the middle of January, according to senior sources at the club.

Whyte, 39, met with Ibrox chairman Alastair Johnston in Glasgow to discuss the purchase of Sir David Murray's shareholding in the club.

 

The proposed £33 million deal will wipe out the existing debt that has stymied Rangers in the transfer market for two years.

 

Yesterday, sources at Rangers said the deal, barring any late hitches, could be completed before Christmas but it is more likely that it will be done by the middle of January. "We can't say with 100 per cent certainty, but Whyte has the money and is very convincing. We think the deal will happen," said the source.

 

Murray has presided over Rangers for 22 years but has been keen to sell his stake for some time.

 

Hopefully the debt thing is not true as that is what is holding them back at the moment.

Some of the names being bandied about on sevco meedja as suggestions for the job are pish yer punts hilarious. These arseholes still haven't grasped the severity of the newco situation cash wise and still believe pound coins flow out of the bath taps in Mordor.

I think he'd have been keeping a keen eye on McInnes' reaction to it all and weighing up the likelihood of being hung out to dry by another club (as he was in Egypt recently). I hope he doesn't join them, I quite like him and thought he was ace as a player and was good as Scotland manager too. Don't know why but in spite of all his overt hunnishness in the past 15 years or so I still don't mind Mcleish at all whereas Mcghoo gives me apoplexy. Both Gothenburg greats and if anything it really should be the reverse that applies but perhaps Mcleish gets away with it because he never managed us and mcghoo did and disastrously so.

 

Anyway managerially he is a busted flush, I hope he is indeed the guy sevco turn to and he insists on at least a 30 month contract. The majority of the deficit is accounted for through qualification for the Champions League

group stages. Other income streams such as retail revenue and commercial income are

increasing however there needs to be a recognition of just how valuable qualification for

the group stages of the Champions League has now become. It is worth in the region of

30m Euros plus associated gate monies.  .

It was the "nearest competition" part that was strange. They're in third place and finished last season in third, with their nearest competitor being St Johnstone in 4th.

My guess is

 

a) The fuckers have realised they cannot afford an available "top class" manager eg Bilic, Pulis etc

 

b) They have tried to get in a "next level down" guy (eg McLeish) but only offered till end of season with extension of contract based on either getting them 2nd in league or winning Scottish Cup and been told to bolt.

 

c) Too risk averse to take the brave option by offering to an "up and coming manager" eg Potter or Jack Ross

 

d) Left with no choice but to appoint Murty till end of season. Bonus benefit of being cheap as chips.

 

Problem being with Murty is that sevco could find themselves adrift in 3rd in league by mid/late Feb and poss also out of Scottish Cup. That scenario would surely not be tolerated by the orc hordes and they'd be demanding poor old Murty's head.
