Sale of Rangers FC 'will go ahead by mid-January'

Published Date: 05 December 2010

By Tom English

A DEAL to sell Rangers Football Club to Scots venture capitalist Craig Whyte will go though by the middle of January, according to senior sources at the club.

Whyte, 39, met with Ibrox chairman Alastair Johnston in Glasgow to discuss the purchase of Sir David Murray's shareholding in the club.

The proposed £33 million deal will wipe out the existing debt that has stymied Rangers in the transfer market for two years.

Yesterday, sources at Rangers said the deal, barring any late hitches, could be completed before Christmas but it is more likely that it will be done by the middle of January. "We can't say with 100 per cent certainty, but Whyte has the money and is very convincing. We think the deal will happen," said the source.

Murray has presided over Rangers for 22 years but has been keen to sell his stake for some time.

Hopefully the debt thing is not true as that is what is holding them back at the moment.

SFA beaks are ready to throw the book at Charles Green over his SPL bigot blast.

The Rangers chief claimed that bigotry was behind the decision to kick the Ibrox club out of the top flight.

It’s understood Hampden beaks are furious at Green’s outburst. And he will be ordered to appear before them just days after Gers are formally granted their licence by the governing body.

SFA compliance officer Vincent Lunny has written to Green demanding an explanation for his explosive claim.

He’s given the outspoken Yorkshireman until August 7 to respond with evidence to back up his accusations.

The Light Blues were given the temporary go-ahead late on Friday night which allowed them to kick off their season at Brechin.

Green, however, landed himself in hot water before the Glebe Park tie had even started when he launched into a savage blast at those SPL chairmen who opted to banish Rangers.

He was later caught applauding as 2,500 visiting fans chanted ‘If you hate Stewart Regan clap your hands’ in a show of resentment towards the SFA chief.

Pfft.  Welcome to ma boaby.

Apparently Shiels doesn't see it as a "step down" from SPL Killie................

I think I'd be a wee bittie pissed off ifI was a Killie fan >:D

I'm sorry - i've not been keeping up, but do the Rangers even have a license to play fitba' yet?

Until this Friday I think it is.

4 year contract is mental.

I would love to see Sevco's financial plans that they presented as part of their application. They were losing money hand over fist before, it just makes absolutely no sense at all.

Seems utterly mental.

Their TV money will be virtually zilch, they have no Europe for 3 years whether they are gerymanderd into the SPL quicker than they should, their ST and gate prices are cut and despite all the posturing and bluster their attendances will be a lot less.

I see they still have Tennents on their shirts, presumably that deal has been renegotiated, what about JJB sports and other commercial deals?

It doesn't add up surely?

It can't add up. Their revenue is a small fraction of what they had, STs are hundreds of pounds a head lower as well as thousands less of them, sponsorship has to be hugely diminished yet they are able to keep their staff on and still cherry pick some of the better players in the SPL last season. Seriously, what the fuck?

Tennents will not review their sponsorship despite Der Hun being in division 3.

They will not run the risk of the filth boycotting the chemical tasting brew that Der Hun typically spunk over

But the contracts were with old co, do they just transfer straight across or is this a new deal

SFA supremo Stewart Regan has slammed Rangers’ attacks on him as UNDIGNIFIED and IRRESPONSIBLE.

And he has accused Ibrox owner Charles Green of pandering to the Gers support.

Green was pictured applauding fans as they chanted ‘if you hate Stewart Regan clap your hands’ at Brechin on Sunday.

Earlier, Ally McCoist had hit out against Regan’s lack of leadership in a stinging blast.

Regan — who has received DEATH THREATS in recent weeks — last night hit back: “Some of the comments and some of the behaviour has been un-dignified and irresponsible. At a general level there is a recognition at the SFA Rangers want to get back to the top of the game.

“We have met all of the key players in the new board and there are those on that board who talk a lot of sense, and there are those who are determined to bring a lot of success back to Rangers.

“They have a conditional membership, they’re close to getting that converted into a full membership, and then it’s down to the club and the new board to take the club forward.

“The governing body then has a responsibility to treat Rangers as we would treat any other club, and move on.”

Regan insists Green only behaved in the way he did at Glebe Park to curry favour with Gers fans.

He added: “There are a lot of challenging issues in Scottish football at the moment. Rangers have had a period which they have had to try and overcome and get their game back on track.

“As far as their issues are concerned, they have been desperate to try and bring their fans with them. They’ve used opportunities to try and engage with those fans.

“We’ve got to look forward. We have a big job to do to take Scottish football to the next level, to try and get reconstruction back on the agenda.

“If you look over the last few weeks, there has been a lot said. There have been emails, there have been leaks, comments made to the media.

“Quite a lot of it’s been undignified and irresponsible. We have to rise above that at the SFA and do what we think is right.

“It’s important for everybody to move on. We have been through a very difficult period for the game. The image of the game has been tarnished. Comments have been made which are unsatisfactory and unpalatable at times.”

Asked specifically about Green’s behaviour, Regan added: “I’m only interested in the future and rising above things like that. It’s for others to judge.

“I never expected this job to be a popularity contest. I never came here thinking it was going to be easy.

“I’d like people to look at the progress that has been made in modernising this organisation.

“We’ve come further in two years than in the previous 20 or 30 years.

“We are going through some difficult financial times and it’s at times like these that people get very emotional. Perhaps things are said that are regretted afterwards.”

Regan, meanwhile, has revealed Rangers have disclosed the individuals behind their takeover.

He added: “The SFA have satisfied themselves and Rangers have satisfied the board of directors that the people involved are compliant as far as our Articles are concerned.”

Regan grow some balls and just pull the membership , there sectarian biggoted views are not what Scottish football wants or needs . thy have flaunted the rules and laws and acted in a manor completely devoid of all human respect  >:D

He was later caught applauding as 2,500 visiting fans chanted ‘If you hate Stewart Regan the man that's bent over backwards to try and force our corrupt institution into the SPL and then Division 1 and avoid sanctions and further punishments at any cost clap your hands’ in a show of resentment towards the SFA chief.

Dumb huns.

But the contracts were with old co, do they just transfer straight across or is this a new deal

Regardless of that, why are Sevco Ltd being allowed to play in Rangers PLC. shirts?

Fiorentina had to change the badge and hue of their shirts as far as I am aware.

same old sevco always cheating.

Ken fit pisses me right aff?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-premier ... why the fuck is this page giving news about a Third Division team?

I sent in a couple of comments about this. Also asked why they had a rangers headline in the Dundee section rather than actually finding out any news about them.

no response yet.
