A DEAL to sell Rangers Football Club to Scots venture capitalist Craig Whyte will go though by the middle of January, according to senior sources at the club.

Whyte, 39, met with Ibrox chairman Alastair Johnston in Glasgow to discuss the purchase of Sir David Murray's shareholding in the club.

 

The proposed £33 million deal will wipe out the existing debt that has stymied Rangers in the transfer market for two years.

 

Yesterday, sources at Rangers said the deal, barring any late hitches, could be completed before Christmas but it is more likely that it will be done by the middle of January. "We can't say with 100 per cent certainty, but Whyte has the money and is very convincing. We think the deal will happen," said the source.

 

Murray has presided over Rangers for 22 years but has been keen to sell his stake for some time.

 

Hopefully the debt thing is not true as that is what is holding them back at the moment.

It was said on Sportsound on Tuesday that they expect ESPN to walk away from Scottish football now, but Sky won't.

I would have though that due to the media attention that this has attracted, then there is a chance that tv companies would want to be showing some of the action from the circus that is Scottish football this season?? Am I being a bit naive thinking that if ESPN did indeed walk away, that A.N.Other tv company would fancy some of it?

Must admit I'd be much more interested in watching newco versus Peterhead (or similar) than watching old Rangers hump St Mirren.  I never watched any SPL unless the Dons were playing, but there would be a perverse interest in the third division if that's where they end up.

The SFL will get a TV deal - which it would not have otherwise which is great for all those teams.

Because they'll get more in advertising costs for any huns matches, which is half of their matches near enough.

Pretty sure I read something a while back that ESPN were thinking of withdrawing from Europe long beofre the Huns went tits up. Could this be another bit of spin like the claim that Clydesdale Bank will walk away because of this despite them confirming that they were not renewing last year?
