I see Nicky Butt has been released by The Toon. No spring chicken anymore but if wages weren`t an issue couldn`t he be like a "David James" if one goes to Celtic. We can't compete with most teams in league 1 or 2 there is no way we could match the wages of a player who has just been released from a club promoted to the premier league. However what with Yoann Folly signed it would seem a non starter anyway. I was just trying to show a bit of outside the box thinking with my suggestion in the first place. Afterall Hartley can`t be that far off 35 himself! His age isn't the issue. As good a player as Hartley would be for us if he signed, he has never had the class of Nicky Butt, ergo, doesn't command wages that are even remotely close to what Butt can earn.
