New balls please

You can tell its getting to the time of no news stories when this is the best that can be offered

PLENTY SPL teams have lamented a lack of goals this term – Hearts, Aberdeen, St Mirren and Kilmarnock to name a few – but their chances of hitting the net more frequently could be aided by the new Mitre ball which will be used next season.

In short, goalkeepers should be warned to expect to face faster and more powerful shots.

Mitre's Tensile ball, which will also be used by the 72 clubs of the English Football League, is described as a revolution in football design and technology and replaces the current Mitre Revolve which has been used in the top-flight since 2006. The new ten-panel design, which will again feature individual clubs' colours, dramatically reduces the number of panels from the present 26 on the Revolve and consequently has over 30 per cent less stitching.

This is intended to improve airflow and reduce drag on the ball, and as a result increase the average speed of shots.

Mitre marketing manager, Nick Crook, said: "The Tensile is a players' ball, uses the very latest technology and we've no doubt it will add to the excitement and spectacle of the new season – and hopefully more goals."

They should just start using plastic "floaters" that we got as kids and be done with it.

FFS Fucks sake. It says it'll be in my teams colours and in the photo it's blue. I blame Mark McGhee for this.
