stuartmonroe
....that Russell's 1 million is to go towards the playing pool and new contracts.... Apparently it is NOT going to be going towards servicing the debt.... It may mean that another couple of players may yet arrive, and the rest of the pool may be able to be kept together. Guest At The Border Guy
I really doubt it. We wouldn't have sold him otherwise.

Guest kilted1
Quote Willie Miller "The proceeds of the sale will be reinvested in the football department, from youth development right up to first-team level. "We have a number of existing players whose contracts are up next summer and contract discussions will be beginning soon. We also have European football to look forward to and we will look at helping Jimmy Calderwood with his squad as he prepares for that." Guest kilted1
Quote was taken from an article from Thisisnorthscotland.co.uk - ANDERSON'S PARTING GIFT TO THE DONS 08:50 - 28 June 2007 Former Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson has given his percentage of the transfer fee back to the Dons following his move to Sunderland. The 28-year-old yesterday ended his 11-year association with the Pittodrie club to move to the English Premiership side for a fee in the region of £1million. Despite being entitled to a share of his sale, the Aberdonian has decided to let the Dons reinvest the money back into the club. Aberdeen director of football Willie Miller said: "Russell had a clause in his contract which entitled him to a percentage of the transfer fee but he has waived his right and given it to the club on the condition it is reinvested in the youth set-up. "Russell has been a very important player, a leading captain, and a great person in general for this club, and we are very disappointed to be losing him. "He is at an advanced stage of his career and the fact he gave his percentage of a transfer fee back to the club is a measure of the guy." The loss of the Scotland international defender is a massive blow to Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood and his coaching staff as the players return to pre-season training today but the proceeds of the sale will not be spent on easing the club's £9million debt. Miller said: "Bearing in mind the fact Russell was out of contract at the end of next season, we had to make sure we did not lose the player for nothing. "The proceeds of the sale will be reinvested in the football department, from youth development right up to first-team level. "We have a number of existing players whose contracts are up next summer and contract discussions will be beginning soon. We also have European football to look forward to and we will look at helping Jimmy Calderwood with his squad as he prepares for that." Anderson, who celebrated his 10-year link with Aberdeen last year with a testimonial against Everton, is looking forward to proving himself in the Premiership. The defender, who has signed a three-year deal with the Black Cats, said: "It was a very difficult decision. We had a successful season last year and I've got a lot of ties with Aberdeen. But the opportunity was one I couldn't turn down."
glasgow sheep
It should be used to service the debt. It's at, what, about £13M now and we are still losing money every year. With out debt increasing and the stadium issue seemingly as far from a resolution as ever we can't afford to waste money on transfer fees. Yes Russell's wages should be used to sign someone else (if not used already) but I wouldn't go spending the £1M
Reekie_Red
Some papers are saying our debt is £13m. Che Willie just said our debt is around £9m. I was under the belief that it was around £7m. What's it to be?
sheepheid
f**k it.....Let's just wipe the slate clean and call it zero with say a £20 in there to complete the paperwork!.

Drewsome
£20 Milloin eh? Well we're not going to make it back in 1 year that's for sure! Assuming we make the Group stage (which IMHO is still possible) for the UEFA Cup, how much can we knock off giving half the TV £££ to the debt?
