AFC GOAL OF THE SEASON

The RedTV panel has decided on the following list as the official goals of the season. But which is the best?

• Charlie Mulgrew (1st goal) v Celtic - 27th September 2008

Charlie Mulgrew (1st goal) v Celtic - 27th September 2008

This will take some beating, though many of the TV highlights didn't do it justice. Starting deep in their own half, Aberdeen passed the ball about for fun before Hodgkiss crossed and Mulgrew volleyed home. One for the football purists.

• Charlie Mulgrew (2nd goal) v Celtic - 27th September 2008

Charlie Mulgrew (2nd goal) v Celtic - 27th September 2008

Charlie Mulgrew could have had his own goal of the season competition! He also scored free-kicks against Inverness and Motherwell but we decided this was the best one. A stunning strike.

• Darren Mackie v Hearts - 14th February 2009

Darren Mackie v Hearts - 14th February 2009

A long ball from Charlie Mulgrew was volleyed first time by Darren Mackie into the net, a brilliant finish. Trying to hit a ball as it is dropping over your shoulder is as tough a job as there is in the game but Darren made it look easy.

• Tommy Wright v St Mirren - 3rd March 2009

Tommy Wright v St Mirren - 3rd March 2009

Always good to see a header in a goal of the season competition (Sky's Andy Gray would be proud of us) and you won't see many better headers than this. Trailing to St Mirren in the final minute, the ball was played into the box and, from distance, Tommy managed to direct the ball and get enough power to beat the keeper. A crucial goal that rescued a point for Aberdeen.

• Sone Aluko v Kilmarnock - 1st November 2008

Sone Aluko v Kilmarnock - 1st November 2008

Another vital goal in many ways as the Dons were going through a sticky spell at the time. Despite having only a fraction of the net to hit, he beat the keeper with the pace of the shot.

• Lee Miller (1st goal) v Kilmarnock - 13th January 2009

Lee Miller (1st goal) v Kilmarnock - 13th January 2009

Lee is often not given the credit he deserves for the excellent touch he has. He showed it here with a quite brilliant back heel flick at the near post.

• Chris Maguire v Motherwell - 4th April 2009

Chris Maguire v Motherwell - 4th April 2009

Chris is now showing us the talent everyone at Pittodrie knows he has. He is now showing us this ability on a regular basis and this goal was further evidence. Lee Miller flicked the ball on and although it looked like Chris had given himself too much to do with the tight angle, he hammered the ball into the roof of the net, the power of the shot beating the keeper.

• Darren Mackie v Inverness CT - 20th December 2008

Darren Mackie v Inverness CT - 20th December 2008

In one of the Dons' best performances of the season Darren Mackie finished off the scoring with a sublime chip over former team mate Ryan Esson. It was a delightful finish from the striker.

Dazzling Darren vs Hearts for me because I was so shocked he managed to score a peach

When I saw this on redweb earlier I was thinking what happens if a player scores the best goal ever in one of the three remaining games?

The only sensible solution would surely be to end Jimmy Calderwood's contract early?

Match of the day and sportscene always do this too

Goal of the season poll comes out with at least 2 league games and the scottish cup final still to play. In the days before the internet when sportscene etc stopped come june I could understand this but now with internet streaming it seems stupid.

They also do the poll at the semi final stages of world cups and euro championship too.

If I was cynical id say this had a negative effect on the final.

Anyone recall the last major international final that was a classic game full of spectacular goals?

You honestly think that spectacular goals aren't scored in the final of major tournaments cos the BBC has chosen to do their best goal comp before that match?  Seriously?  Good grief.
