Foster in plea to Red Army

RICHARD FOSTER is calling on the Red Army to be patient when the Dons tackle St Mirren tonight.

Defender Foster said: “The fans at Pittodrie can become impatient and voice their opinions if things are not going well. They are entitled to do that.

“But hopefully we will get off to a strong start and they will get right behind us because the fans are important to us at home.â€

Aberdeen finally broke their Pittodrie hoodoo with a 1-0 home win over Kilmarnock last month, but have still earned just four points from a possible 18 at Pittodrie this season.

The victory did, however, end a nightmare five-game winless run at Pittodrie and the former Scotland Under-21 cap is expecting Saints to sit back and defend in numbers.

“We always knew a home win would come but the longer it went on it was becoming harder and harder to take,†he said.

“It was so important to beat Kilmarnock in our last home game and we need to keep that going tonight.

“I would take a 1-0 win at Pittodrie anytime if it meant coming away with three points, because getting a win is the bottom line.â€

Versatile Foster has been utilised in a variety of positions already this season.

Right back, left back, central midfield and man marking – he has done them all.

And he is willing to slot into any role against the Saints.

“I will play anywhere the gaffer wants me although I do prefer playing further forward,†he said.

“Against Hearts and Kilmarnock, I was used in a central midfield role and enjoyed that.

“But the manager often changes the side and the formations so it is important to be versatile.† >:D

Foster is furious the Dons continue to throw away points by leaking goals.

And he insists the mistakes must stop now or Aberdeen will jeopardise their chances of European football next season.

He said: “The mistakes cannot continue as we have lost far too many points already.

“As the home side we must take the game to St Mirren and it is vital we keep it tight at the back.

“The gaffer keeps saying that the most difficult part of football is scoring goals.

“If we are gifting teams goals it is making it so much harder for us.â€

The crowd at Pittodrie is fucking ridiculous. I'd hate to play in front of us. We certainly need to get behind the players more and if we must scream bile at the top of our lungs let's at least do it towards the manager (not that that wasn't going on) as he is responsible for putting the players on the pitch.

One idiot in particular was last week having a go at fans around me for "not getting behind the team" yet this week he was screaming abuse at everyone at the top of his irritating lungs singling out Charlie Mulgrew and Seve in particular. I'm not saying players should be criticized. But this guy's only trying to wind people up and no one needs wound up even more at Pittodrie!
