A strong Dons second string went down to a single goal against Rangers this afternoon in Brechin. In a competitive match referee Derek Nicholls felt the need to book five Aberdeen players. Stuart Duff was booked after 22 minutes, Tommy Wright after 29 minutes when he went into a 50/50 challenge with the keeper. It looked a very harsh decision. Stuart Smith was booked on the stroke of half time for a challenge that was not even a foul.

At half time Tommy Wright was substituted by Peter Pawlett - possibly an indicator that he might start the game on Saturday. After the break the referee continued handing out cards. Captain Zander Diamond was booked on 54 minutes. Three minutes later Burke gave Rangers the lead.

Maguire and Shinnie were then both booked on 63 minutes.

The Dons were unlucky to lose the game and deserved at least a draw. Jared Hodgkiss put in a very fine performance at right back. As did Stuart Smith at left back. Chris Maguire also had a good game.

Team: Bossu, Hodgkiss, Stu Smith, Crawford, Duff, Diamond, Mair, de Visscher, Wright (Pawlett 45), Maguire, Paton. Subs Bateman, Crawford, Jack, Clark

Two pointers for Saturday?

Two pointers for Saturday?

Sounds like it. This is the one Wright has been waiting for since Potter was the one that released him from Leicester

Or maybe he thought that Wright was likely to get sent off in the second half judging by the card happy referee.

Which is exactly what the EE says today.
