For more years than I care to remember I have streamed pretty much all of my music via Spotify but have recently thought about trying one of the others.

Aware of the likes of Deezer, Tidal, Apple Music, Amazon Music etc

What service does everyone else use ?

Anyone ever used Lyra ? This is a new one to me, that I hadn't previously heard of.

I used Deezer for a short while last year. It was not much different to Spotify, although I hear that they do pay the artists more per stream than Spotify do, if that sort of thing concerns you.

The only steaming our Lyra does is when she cocks her leg…

I've never streamed music.

Still buy mine in physical format and since the demise of my iPod, during a deluge in the summer of 2023, I only really listen to radio when out walking now.

My loons do like Apple Music though

Good - wish there were more people like you.

I hate streaming - the artists payment models, the now transient nature of music, the focus away from albums, the lack of personal investment in the bands 'we' love, another avenue of life we are mindlessly spoon-fed through algorithms. I asked my nephew once what he was listening to. The reply was 'Spotify'

I succumbed a couple of years ago. Accepted it is the best way to access swathes of all sorts of music, and that is isn't going anywhere. I had Spotify but detest them even more than the detestable You Tube that I now use.

I miss owning new music. I might revert. Hard once you're sucked in.

If you get past the fact it is You Tube, You Tube music has pretty much all tunes you could need. The catalogue is huge. Their artist payment model is (marginally) less terrible than Spotify, and their bosses don't (openly) invest in arms companies.

Their interface is a wee bit busy at times, but you get used to it.

It is rumoured in the industry (and it is just suspicion at the moment) that Spotify are pushing their own AI generated content as real artists into people's algorithms to boost their profits and reduce artist payments even further. No idea if that is true, but I well believe it. It's another area where AI content seems to be getting better by the day 😢

I was very late in getting a mobile. My Wife insisted after my heart issue was detected, although I hardly use it, other than BBC Sounds. I certainly never give anyone my number.

A conversation stopper in a new workplace. 😆

I'm fairly tech savvy, but mainly through work, but live like a Luddite outside of work, although I have relented a bit in recent years.

One thing I am proud of, is never having bought anything through Amazon.

Each to their own and all that though and I can actually see the plus point of streaming music.

At times, I wish I hadn't got into streaming music but unfortunately I did. Given the fact that I run my own business from home on my own, it has over the years been beneficial to me, not only from the viewpoint of keeping me entertained during the working day but also providing me with ideas for my weekly broadcast.

I have a large (although maybe not by some other folk's standards) collection of vinyl, cd's and cassette tapes and have in the past few years reverted back to buying vinyl. You actually can't beat the crackle of the needle on vinyl.

I do think however the price of vinyl is absolutely ridiculous nowadays and to be perfectly honest I tend to listen upon release via Spotify prior to investing. Guess the costs of vinyl nowadays is a whole new debate though.

I guess the cost of pressing vinyl these days pushes up the price.

Back in its heyday there would have been many vinyl pressing plants pumping out records and they would have all closed when CDs took over.

Possibly, but I suspect there is a huge mark up on it also.

When I am out and about buying records, it is pleasing to see more and more youngsters getting in on the act now

Whilst it will never take over from streaming, it is good to see physical music doing fairly well.

I spent many an hour in One-Up trawling through the latest releases and discovering new bands.

Also remember queuing up there for gig tickets. 5am for Stone Roses at Glasgow Green. Standing in a queue in the rain with other music lovers was way better than refreshing the internet!
