mondo_notion Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 The government say 'fill up as normal'. Of course that is code for going down to the local petrol station to fill up your sainsburys carrier bags with premium unleaded. Sure you have seen the video. A few places are out of diesel around me so looks like this could perhaps be worse than the shortages when the tanker drivers went on strike, which is the last one I remember. Anyone else struggling to fill up? Electric vehicle owners need not reply Quote
RicoS321 Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 Apparently we can just go to Hormuz and help ourselves. 2 Quote
CurlsLikeTattie Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 We seem to be fine so far - but I did see advice to fill up on or before Thursday before people start their Easter getaways Quote
manc_don Posted April 2 Report Posted April 2 We’ve had warnings about fuel here in NZ but the petrol stations are still providing discounts and so I’d imagine will run out soon rather than later albeit they are super inflated prices. The govt here hasn’t a clue, in fact the PM actually described himself as the ceo anyway. There appear to be the people that live with their heads in the sand here that all is fine and they’ll be plenty to go around. I’m just using it as an excuse to get the wife to reduce some pointless trips locally Quote

Less than 1/4 tank left so popped by on way home yesterday and neither of the petrol stations near us had any proper petrol or diesel. Even if they did, £1.55 per litre. That's up more than 20p from when I last filled up about 3 weeks ago. Fuck me. Haven't had the impression people have been panic buying. There just wisnae any. Ach weel, maybe I'll just stay home today. It's not all bad Edited April 2 by CurlsLikeTattie Quote

Ach weel, maybe I'll just stay home today. It's not all bad I think diesel will soon be above £2/l if it isn't already. I live in a diesel motorhome and usually head off somewhere for the easter long weekend. Won't be doing that this weekend at these prices. Quote

I'm considering buying a rocket. There seems to be plenty of fuel available for those that travel in them. Quote

TheDonbytheDee Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 My Wife just said they are looking to cancel short haul UK flights, to save on fuel. Could just be made up shyte posted on Facebook, which she uses and not a reliable sourse of accurate news. Ordinarily I wouldn't give a shyte, but for the first time in my life, I am using a short haul flight to go to Manchester for a concert next month. We could do it by car, but I'd rather not. First world problems and all that, but still a ball ache. Unklike our politicians I can't blame Iran for this. They might be c*nts, but they weren't the ones who started all this and as for the orange zoomer in the US, words really fail me. Even the yanks who support him must be thinking WTF is going on. There does seem to be a few now suggesting he’s betrayed MAGA. Raping, looting, mocking the disabled and being involved in a child sex trafficking ring was fair enough but $4 a gallon seems to be a red line with a few of them Good Christians 1 Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 I see the P&J are now reporting closed petrol stations throughout the city. Appear to be mainly supermarket ones whose fuel seems to be a lot less at the moment than the independent stations. Quote

There are cancellations on some selected routes, but it's not a blanket cancellation of all short haul. A bunch out of London cancelled, I guess as there are so many flights people can be semi- easily rerouted on alternatives. Hoping yours isnae one of the others! Quote

The thought of driving down and back in 24 hours gives me the fear. I really hate travelling, especially by car or bus. 2 Quote

Could have saved myself the hassle if I went to their poorly attended show at the Capital, Aberdeen in 1991 and with three of the original line up. Ach, they'll be back soon enough, I thought. I'll see them next time! Quote
manc_don Posted April 4 Report Posted April 4 I’m guessing trains aren’t an option? Used to be a service between Edinburgh and Manchester. Wasn’t one of the fancy pendolino ones but still used it (probably 15 + years back tbf ) Quote

Bus is another Ball ache too, so if flights cancelled we'll have to drive. Driving is the lesser of three evils, but see what happens in the coming weeks, but hopefully it all works out. 1 Quote
