We should just copy what they are doing.

If only it were that simple.

Bodo, situated north of the arctic circle, population 55,000, ie, around 25% of the size of Aberdeen, truly incredible.

Their manager is working miracles there. Really surprised he has not been poached by another club by now.

I hadn't realised until I just googled it that it's the very same Knutsen that Aberdeen tried to tempt until we had to settle for Thelin. Been there since 2018. Rare display of loyalty for the modern game. Laudable.

They haven't won the cup since 1993.

I'd rather we were more like us, winning the cup every year (since 2025).

They do have a huge home advantage when you think about it. That must help them.

I think there are parallels potentially between Aberdeen and Bodo/Glimt. If we could do what they do, in attracting back to their home city talent at the latter stages of their careers, we could put together quite a side.

Do Aberdonians, other than Shinnie, feel that kind of love for their home team though?

Yes. Not sure where you're from but the idea Aberdeen isn't a football city is for the birds and you're average Aberdonian is fiercely proud of their city even if they aren't particularly happy with the local council and the decisions they take but show me a populace that are. Everyone moans about their local council and the state of their town but that doesn't mean they're not proud of where they're from.

Exactly. Ryan Jack loves his home city for example, and Connor Barron. Not to forget Scott Wright who can't stay away from the place.

We should welcome them all home. Probably wait until they're past it though, so we get them cheaper.

I think it's a weegie myth, that Aberdeen isn't a city for fitba.

A proud one club city, with no sectarian shyte having ever dragged us down to the levels of other Towns and Cities.

I think that's the part that irks them most.

Please, please don't say the Cove huns are the second team of the City. They're not even the second club in Cove.

Whatever is happening at Bodo, it will never happen here again.

They are probably going  through a period, like we did in the 80s, with Fergie.

Everything has just aligned for them as it did us and good luck to them.

I was in Oslo in October, and Bodo have a pop up shop at Oslo Airport, where you can buy Bodo merchandise.

I thought that was impressive.

Those three should have their heads put on spikes at the Castlegate to warn others of the consequences of signing for them.

The fact Aberdonians turn so viciously on a Judas is proof of the civic pride felt by most. I'd genuinely have them swing from the gallows at the top of Marischal Street. In fairness Jack did give 17 years to the Dons but I'd still cheer as he dangled.

The dog botherer is a mealer is he not? Excused boots if so.

I wasn’t suggesting in any way that Aberdeen isn’t a football city. My point was rather do enough pros who are Aberdonians feel passionate about the Dons?

I suspect not, as some of those listed above make clear.

Imagine a world where all those Judas types were genuine Dandies who would want to come home and serve their hometown club. Obviously they’d never have taken the Hun shilling in the first place.

Anyway, part of what Bodo have done is just that - getting former players/supporters to return home.

Sadly don’t see it happening.

Not that many Aberdonians become top class professional players anyway.

More money to be made if you're "big in the oil" 🤣

Jack Milne. Wish he'd gone for a career in oil instead of joining the Dons.

Shame but he's yet another local lad that just isn't good enough.

Does that mean we can get rid of this unnecessary thread?
