  1. A few years back Man United's Ryan Giggs had persistent problems with his hamstring...or so they thought. Turned out to be that the car he was driving was causing the problem. His lower back muscles were causing the hamstrings to tighten due to the position of the car seat.

He switched cars and no longer had a problem. I'm not suggesting that Smithy should trade in his Lambourghini or in his case Meriva like Giggsy did, but maybe the medics have to look at his lifestyle to see if he is doing anything that could cause his persistent problems. Just a thought.

Was it Colin Cameron who had persistent hamstring/groin problems that were eventually traced to the alignment of his teeth? If a player's worth as much to the team as JC thinks Smith is to us, then surely we should be looking at spending a bit of money to get a proper medical specialist to look at him, get his injury problems cleared up and give us a player who could, potentially, be the difference between 5th place obscurity and 3rd place Euro spot glory.

  2. My Dundee mate laughed cos he was a Dundee and Pars reject in the literal sense that he couldn't force his way to play for either of them.

I think Langfield made his 50th career appearance playing for us. If he was 21, i'd say that was fair enough. He was, however, 25 or something. Had his career been spent at one of the ugly sisters, you could understand the lack of games. Sadly, Jamie's career had taken in such luminaries of the modern game as Dundee, Raith, Partick and Dunfermline. I was never inspired by his arrival. He did a hell of a lot that changed my mind about him earlier this season though, but it's definitely time for him to take a back seat for a while.

  3. I can guarantee that Leighton had utterly no input into the Langfield signing. He did for Soutars, but definitely not for Langfield.

I'll take your word for that, as i've got no idea as far as that goes. All i know about is the current situation. He couldn't have scouted Langfield anyway. He never played for Dunfermline as far as i remember.

  4. Well I'd heard that it was dependent on one of our "keepers" leaving in the summer, however, it seems likely that one will.  And then, going on previous experience, you really think JC would "scout" a keeper when he's got one on his doorstep who's also great to have around the place...?  ;)

Sadly, as the final say on signings goes to JC, you're probably right.  :-[  However, a glimmer of hope is that JC doesn't scout for keepers. That's left to someone who's meant to know about them and what to look for...

  5. Soutar's got the jersey and it's his to lose. It's his turn now and, barring injury/a series of calamitous fuck ups, it's his til at least the end of the season. We won't be signing a new keeper unless we lose one, and if we do, it definitely won't be the Polish guy at Peterhead. It probably won't be Esson either, as we were just doing him a favour. However, if we need a new keeper desperately, i wouldn't rule him out.

  6. Be afraid, be very afraid

    Scott Muirhead anyone ::)

Is Scott Thompson still playing? I seem to remember Jimmy helped him in his conversion from striker to centre half at Dunfermline. Bet he's funny as well.

I do notice that the EE just throws in the line "Darren Young would welcome a Pittodrie return as well". Absolutely no foundation for it, never mentioned anywhere else in the article, just chucked it in. More made up shite in the EE? Who'd have thunk it. Wilson, however, is a different matter. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we didn't go for him in the Summer.

  7. Thought this thread was going to be highlighting the quite brilliant program clash in the BBC1 regional programming. On BBC1 Scotland just now, we have Panathinaikos against the odious Huns. On BBC1 England, they're getting a program called Attila The Hun.

  8. Foster: Speed is not enough anymore. Afraid to go down the wings into crossing position, disappears from the game too often. Can't round an opposing player.

Sounds awful familiar. Has Foster officially now become the new Chris Clark?!?!

I like the look of Walker. He's just a kid, but he does look like he has the ability. Plainly not up to pace with first team football yet though. I also don't think he got enough help from his midfield partner today...

Maguire needs to go on loan to the first division. Same as so many of our failed youngsters before him, he'd really benefit from being able to play every week in an environment that'd toughen him up.

  9. A bit harsh. Im hardly advocating stringing the man up from the nearest tree!!

I'll get the pitchforks if you want to find some flaming torches.  ;)

I've said no. In theory, Milne could/should be a very good chairman. He's got the wealth to help out, he's apparently a fan, he's got the business profile to attract the corporate big hitters (even if he doesn't do the actual negotiating, surely he can be an attractive "face" to investors?). However, it just doesn't look like it'll work out like that, for god knows what reason. He just doesn't seem to do much of anything.

  10. I've heard it said that JC's got some kind of unsackable option in his contract. Could i be a bit optimistic here and suggest that maybe JC knows exactly the limitations of our squad and has a plan in place for next season? If i'm right, i suspect we may see a lot more doom and gloom before the end of the season, but reasons to be hopeful in May/June/July...

  11. I'm intrigued with how this'll pan out. After all, Langfield got away with it in the summer...

Edit: Damn you, itchy post finger...

Anyway, presumably swearing at a coach is a breach of discipline of some sort. I don't think we've never heard of Lovell breaching club discipline before, but Langfield was very publicly told he was leaving as he'd had his last chance as far as disciplinary matters go. This could end up being a case of who looks liek a JC favourite now. One thing i do know though, and that's the fact that it'll be spectaularly badly handled until it's all settled.

  12. Ah, but Bagshaw was very young indeed, and Stewart was quite obviously never going to make it. The thing with Lovell is he's done it for Dundee and scored quite a good few SPL goals for them. We know he CAN do it, but he just never seems to get the chance to actually show it. It looks like he's going to be one of those signings that just doesn't work out, which would be a shame, as the ability is definitely there, we just haven't ever used it correctly.

As for him missing more sitters than anyone esle at the club, i'll see you the Lovell sitters, and raise you 10 years of Mackie.  ;)
