We have to keep expectations realistic, says legend Miller

WILLIE Miller today further clarified his expectations for Aberdeen.

The Dons Director of Football came under fire at the club’s annual meeting for criticising the fans’ unrealistic expectations.

And Miller insists the club and fans must work together to bring trophy success.

He said: “The fans were a little frustrated and thought that both Jimmy Calderwood and I were having a go at them for having unrealistic expectations.

“But there is no way we would ever criticise the fans, we need to travel down this road together. Bollocks

“It is good for the fans to voice their opinions about these issues.

“The point was made passionately at the annual meeting.

“If there is a misunderstanding between ourselves and the fans we have to work hard to rectify that.”

Miller insists that the club are looking to ensure regular European football and a major cup final appearance.

And he aims to achieve that this season, after the disappointment of crashing out of both major cups at the semi-final stage last term.

“Getting to a Scottish Cup final is a realistic expectation,” he said.

“So is beating a team like Queen of the South to get there.

“That should be the expectation and we have to handle that as a club.

“Unfortunately, we did not do that last season and have to make up for that.

“Hopefully, we can make up for that in the season ahead.”

But the former Dons skipper, who led the club to the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1983, confirmed the Red Army should give up any real hope of a return to the Euro trophy years. IN THE NAME OF GOD! NO SHIT SHERLOCK! STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

“Rangers and Celtic have been pouring millions into their attempt to win a European trophy for years,” he said.

“They have not achieved that so our aim will just be to get into Europe and enjoy some more great games like the home ties against Bayern Munich and FC Copenhagen.”

Miller also revealed that the Dons youth network is set to expand into England.

The club has moved across the border in an effort to unearth more rising talent like teenage strike sensation Sone Aluko.

He said: “We are working hard to get into English football academies in the search to pick up young talent down there.

“There are a lot of quality young players in England and we are building a network of contacts down there that will alert us to any rising star.

“Hopefully, we can unearth another gem like Sone Aluko who has been a real hit.”

Why not try going outside, meeting people, making friends, having a life?

Are there any previous direct quotes from WM or JC saying the fans have unrealistic expectations?

Sorry, I should say that I just nabbed this from kkk-chat so none of the sarky comments are mine.
