Jute Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago I see the yanks are just using this tournament as an excuse to fleece folk at every turn. Both Boston and New Jersey charging massive mark ups on on transport to stadiums in Foxboro and New Jersey. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/apr/17/new-jersey-world-cup-matches-train-ticket-prices https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cly797p1399o Can see this being a terrible World Cup to attend as a fan. Agreed and I'm going. Genuinely starting to regret it a wee bit now Quote

I don’t see it as just the yanks. It’s modern football. Tickets, travel, trains, food at games etc, everything is jacked up. Not a fans game any more. Quote

In the European based world cups, transport is always cheap to games. It does seem like the yanks are making an extra big effort to coin it in here. Quote

We also got discounted travel between cities on trains. ETA - Actually the transport on match day at the Euros was free in the region. For example for first game in Munich I stayed in Augsburg and travelled in from their to Munich for free on match day. 1 Quote
manc_don Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago Is it the yanks or is it the FIFA mafia? I’d probably say both, a country up there with Qatar and Russia as to not deserving the rights to host it. Quote

From the stuff I have read it seems to be local authorities saying that a different party signed up to World Cup bid and now it’s a different administration they want FIFA to foot the bill for the transport. Also seen some of local authorities wanting FIFA to foot bill for increased security needed during the World Cup. All these costs are supposed to be factored in to the bid but as I said above the various local authorities all seem to be saying they didn’t sign up to the bid and are not going to foot the bill someone else agreed to.
