Seen a few people talk about him really highly, but it doesn’t feel like the market we should be playing in. Does he (Robinson) have good pedigree in unearthing players from random English league teams?

If we’re back to the head coach plucking random players out of nowhere then it would mean the sporting director model has been chucked in the bin, which I don’t think has happened so I can’t see us being in for this guy. Probably just agent talk.

The sporting director model should include the ability for a manager to recommend players that he's either had experience of, or scouted, previously. It has to be a blend. The player should go through the recruitment team who do their research based on data and videos and additional scouting, and then he gets presented to the sporting director for final sign off. I guess they could apply weighting based on recommendation etc. For me, the sporting director needs to be the one that's on top of the overall balance of the squad and playing devil's advocate by asking how particular players fit into overall strategy and so on. He's there to make sure a robust process is in place and followed, ultimately refusing a signing who might be good, but would end in us having three similar players for example. There's no reason that a manager shouldn't be - in effect - signing players, there is every reason to prevent a manager from signing most or all of the players. It's about balance. Within that balance there must also be a commitment to not blocking the pathway for youth development.

Rumours around that we have had a defender in on trial, playing in a bounce game, against Dundee at what should be called Teddy Scott Park.

No idea if true or just made up shyte.

Surely it’s not that guy from Bromley that I’ve seen touted around on social media? Can’t say reviews of him were overly glowing. Plus he’s league 2. That is not the standard we need.

Allegedly Elvis Bwomono who was at St Mirren a couple of seasons back. Seems to be a right back.

Just did quick search on him

Appears to be playing for an Icelandic team, so not sure how would enable him to turn out as a trialist for us 🤔

Free agent apparently. Released by his Icelandic club at end of season there.

Always thought there was some right shite on this t'internet thingy.

Thanks for putting it right Jute.

Does however beg the question about the lad's level of released by an unheard of Icelandic team 😂

He’s played in the SPL before, knows the league and manager, and if his season has just finished he should be fit. Anyone we add now for depth needs to be able to hit the ground running, if he helps us stay up it makes sense to me.

I'll temper my excitement

Although he has played in our league, can't honestly say I can remember him when we've played St Mirren.

Icelandic season runs from April to October I think so unlikely to have played for five months unless I'm mistaken

According to (the ever reliable) Wikipedia, he played 1 league game and 1 cup game for St Mirren - so maybe not the best indicator to his attunement to our league?

Edit: Hmmmm, then in another part of the same page it says he played 38 times! Not a name I remember seeing

Last game in Iceland was at start of October. Might not be as match fit as you think.
