  1. Watched The Boat That Rocked last night.

What a load of shite, nae even funny. Some good music though.

I remember as a loon lying in my bed listening to radio Luxembourg but that was post Pirate Radio.

Nae sure if Radio Caroline was still on the go then.

  2. My holiday read was the Eddie Turnbull autobiography, "Having a Ball". A great read on how football used to be. Excellent section on his revival of the Dons as manager in the mid 60s. Interesting part about how he coped with George Best when he played for Hibs.

Think I had this one last year, and concur. Excellent read especially if you were going to games during his era.

Turnbull is still held in highest regard by those who played for him.

Another good one is My Father and Other Working Class Heroes by Gary Imlach. A biography of his father's career.

I'm just finished On Fire With Fergie, which was a Christmas read which I quite enjoyed as being a wee bit different from all the biographies on the go.

As the story progresses there is an underlying thread that even within Don's supporting ranks there are always differing perspectives.

  3. Are you blaming Jimmy Calderwood?  He was hardly lighting up Tannadice prior to his move here.  I think he got the best out of him for some spells in his tenure.  It has to be remembered that Lee Miller has only been prolific in one spell in his career since leavign Falkirk and that was in a loan spell at Hearts.

It's teen me aboot 3 weeks to pluck up the courage efter the last roastin for having the sheer affrontery of having an alternate view. I'm a puir wee soul.

All I'm saying is that Lee Miller was a far better player than he latterly showed at Pittodrie. He was wasted in a role that did nothing for him or the team.

I similary blame the manager of the day for wasting Zander Diamonds career. He should have been much better, and would have been under better guidance.

  4. I agree with most of that, MT. Although I disagree with the implication that Jimmy could have taken us further. I think he'd taken us as far as he could but he has to go down as a good manager that we had.

I also agree with much of what MT said, however, and this is what I really feel about JC. He frustrated the hell out of me. I don't think he had the confidence in his own ability to take us to the next level. I always felt he managed to do just enough to make himself look respectable. Just enough to haul us away from danger. He probably had potential to be a good manager, but after 5 years he never really showed that he was going to get any better. He served his purpose. McGhee was a failure, lets move on and hope that Brown and Knox can use their vast experience to manipulate the Board and make this club great again.

  5. thing is, how many season tickets would you imagine we could sell for the stadiums first full season?

im sure itll delight the glasgow based dons to know that ill be getting my first season ticket when its built. (not just because its a new stadium, but because the timing ties in with my long term life plan too!)

id say that a brand new stadium would inspire a damn sight more fans to get one too?

The plan is for myself, sons and grandsons to get season tickets when the stadium is built at Loirston. I've never had one, and only one of my son's has.

Mind you the main reason is because I can see the Loch fae my backie!

I can understand why folk in Bridge of Don or Mastrick might want it built elsewhere or even just rebuild on the existing Pittodrie site, but it's clear from what the Board say that this isn't going to happen.

  6. its quite exciting though, as id trust craig brown with money way more than i would have mcghee and maybe even calderwood too

brown must have a vast network he can call upon for players.

just look at the ones he got at motherwell, with a wee bit of financial muscle he'll hopefully be able to get a higher standard again

I have to agree with you here.

  7. I'm guessing this is a "special" yellow bus and won't be stopping to pick up any passengers? Can "special" buses use bus lanes, otherwise they're going to be stuck in town traffic, like everyone else.

There was a time when Aberdeen Corporation Transport ran a steady stream of busses from the Castlegate to Pittodrie and back after the match. No pick ups just there and back, and always full. It was a well drilled operation and it worked well. No reason why this cannot be resurrected. It's up to AFC, Aberdeen City Council and bus companies to organise it. A bus lane is a bus lane, not a Scheduled First Bus lane, so of course they can use bus lanes.

  8. And the rest!

A special bus, goes down Great Southern Road, accross the bridge, along past Inverdee, then up the Stoney Road to a brand new slip road stopping right ootside the stadium.

With the right traffic management system in place, that should be manageable in 10 minutes.

We can argue all day whether there will be any traffic management or indeed any special busses, but logistically I am highlighting what is more than possible.

Average 30 mph you can drive 30 miles in an hour. At the same average speed you can drive the 5 miles in a 6th of that time. IE 10 minutes.

  9. Is that Citylink or Magicbus?

I was thinking mare in line of special direct match day busses, running from Gt Southern Road.

Christ min, ye'll get a bus ootside The Grumpian or The Rats that'll get ye there in 15mins, well at least with a short walk thereafter.

  10. Think the QOS video is on there as an example of Jimmy's dross?

Copenhagen result is arguably one of the best results/performances in recent memory, maybe ever, who knows? Interesting though how poor we've got and how they are now in the last 16 of the Champions League. I would be intrigued to know if they replaced their manager since then, had funds released etc?

And someone thought my memory was fxcked?

  11. I'm too old to remember Miller ( Alex ). At my tender time of life I have selective memory, but I seem to recollect it was ever such a tad boring though.

JC on the other hand is still oh so fresh in the memory.

He fooled some of the people some of the time and still has a large number fooled even now.

Alex miller has had some top jobs since leaving AFC which suggests that although a fxckin cxnt, he may have known something about the game.

JC on the other hand has been at Kilmarnock, for a wee while.

He completely alienated me, so the worst for me was JC.
