wokinginashearerwonderland Posted October 26, 2021 Share Posted October 26, 2021 Certainly in his first few years as Rangers manager, I remember that a lot of people scoffed at his ability saying that he inherited a great team/had an open cheque book/anyone could win the league with Rangers etc etc. However, later on, particularly reaching the UEFA cup final with what was really a bang average team and punching above his weight at Everton, I think he gained a lot of respect. Their players were the victims of racism very recently. I'm guessing it was just an observation that was maybe of interest rather than a specific point, which there's nothing wrong with at all (I'm not suggesting you think there is). Given only 96% of Scotland is white, it's an interesting observation. A more interesting one would be the lack of Scottish players in their squad. Always seemed a competent enough player without looking brilliant and obviously you don't play for Arsenal and Barcelona if you are not decent. He won 106 caps for Holland, league and FA cup with Arsenal, two leagues, two cups and champions league with Barca plus captained Holland in the world cup final. Not a bad playing career for someone I have never heard anyone talk about in the sense of being a "great" player. Wonder if there is still that thread somewhere about the luckiest players?
