Festivals
« on: May 15, 2008, 05:56:14 PM »
As festival season is slowly creeping up on us, I thought I'd do my usual and tout my TITP tickets to the bidder mug with the most cash.  Thereafter I'll go online, book flights and take in a festival with better weather, women and beer.

Have done the obvious ones so far:

Benicassim (nr Valencia) - http://fiberfib.com/en/line-up/line-up-2008/

Roskilde (nr Copenhagen) - http://www.roskilde-festival.dk/2008/frontpage/

Summercase (Barcelona/Madrid) - http://www.summercase.com/indexen.html

But prefer to keep on, keeping on and try something new, rather than hitting the same one every year.  Anyone been to any weird and wonderful others they'd recommend?

I've always fancied Benicassim, supposed to be very good.

This year I'm going to:

Rockness - http://www.rockness.co.uk/
(great fun in a stunning location)

Kendall Calling - http://www.kendalcalling.com/
(a bargain)

Connect - http://www.connectmusicfestival.com/
(line-up needs to improve as its not a patch on last year which was the best line-up ever seen for a Scottish festival)

I've done Sziget in Budapest for 3 out of the last 4 years.

http://www.sziget.hu/festival_english

It's on an island in the middle of the Danube in August. It's usually roasty toasty, has a wide variety of acts, cheaps as chips and has the best festival food I've ever sampled by far. Plus you have the added factor of having Budapest to play with as well.

This year I'm off to Balaton Sound on Lake Balaton for 5 days in July. Staying in Siofok which is meant to be very lively.

As for weird and wonderful, I went to the Wickerman Festival a couple of years back in Kircudbrightshire. Very 'alternative', if you will. Certainly a bit rough around the edges. The highlight was getting to see the great Arthur Broon whose voice is still very impressive considering his age.

I was all whacked out on goofballs, it's the only way to be at festivals.

Summercase (Barcelona/Madrid) - http://www.summercase.com/indexen.html

I'm giving this one some serious thought....

It's a straight choice between beer, sun & rock & roll in Spain or pie, bovril and the Dons at Balmoor Stadium.  Tough choice.

I'd also considered the Exit festival in Serbia as I'm hoping to go down to Croatia for a holiday anyway, but the line-up's not for me.

That summer case looks pretty good, may speak to a few mates about it next year as most are away on holidays soon.

2manydjs
Biffy Clyro
Blondie
Los Campesinos!
CSS
Foals
Interpol

Mystery Jets
Pete & The Pirates
Primal Scream
Raveonettes
Sex Pistols
Sons & Daughters
Verve
We Are Scientists

Basically all the bands i'd go and see if i was going over.

Went to Dance valley a couple of years back. That was mental. Great fun, resonably priced as well.

Going to Rockness in a couple of weeks. Will hopefully be a good one. Bit too many dance acts for my liking which is why I have avoided it so far. As long as a couple of mates want to see the same bands as me then let the good times commence. I need a tent.

With the bams burning themselves out down in Manchester and then TITP, it might remain 'safe' for another year.  Sadly only a matter of time before they start making the trip.   :hammer:

ATP is the UKs best festival. No camping, real pubs and the beach is not far away.

There is a nuclear power station not that far away either but the festival is so good I can live it.

No need for a tent for me for Rock Ness.

K - do you normally drive there? Has anyone ever got the bus? Does it really take 45 minutes like it says on the website? I'd be quicker walking...
"Have either of you ever been to Ethiopia?"

"Is that near Ibrox?"

"There's a lot of witchcraft and sorcery goes on there."

"It sounds like Ibrox."
