Seeing as the media are currently having a big love-in with historical records, i had a quick scan through previous season stats, and here's where we stand with some of our own this season.

Source of previous seasons is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Aberdeen_F.C._seasons

With 8 games remaining:

Most Wins: Currently on 19.  5 more wins will see us beat last years total (23) for the highest total since 1992/93 (27), when we played 44 games in a season.  The full 8 would see us tie with 84/85 and 92/93 seasons as our highest ever.  19 is already the joint 4th highest since 1992/93, tied with 2006/07 and surpassed only by  each of the last 3 years (20, 23, 22)

Fewest Draws: Our current total (4) is the lowest since 1957/58 (2).  We had 5 last year.

Fewest Defeats: Our current total (7) is the lowest since 1993/94 (6).  Next closest is from 2 years ago, 2014/15 (9).

Most Goals Scored: Currently on 60.  3 more goals will beat last years total (62) to be the most goals scored since 1992/93 (87 over 44 games).  The all-time record is 1935/36 (96).

Least Goals Conceded: Currently 24, joint 4th best of all-time, tied with 1982/83.  Only 1987/88 (15), 1970/71 (18) and 1983/84 (21) are better.  Next closest are 1988/89 (25), 1990/91 (27) and 2014/15 (33).  For perspective we let in exactly double the number of goals last year at 48.

Highest Goal Difference: Pretty much follows on from the previous two stats - we have a current GD of +36, the highest since 1992/93 (+51 over 44 games).  The next closest since then is 2014/15 (+24), and last year we got +14.  In fact, in the 24 years since 92/93, we have only had a positive GD 11 times, and 4 of those are the 4 seasons under McInnes.  The all-time record is 1984/85 (+63, and they only played 36 games!).

Most Points:  Well, we all know this one - 2014/15 is the all-time record of 75.  We are currently on 61, so 15 points out of 24 will beat this.  Even with 8 games to go though, this is already our joint 6th highest points total of all time, or if only looked at by comparing 38-game, 3-points-for-a-win seasons (starting 2000/01, total 17 seasons), joint 5th with 2004/05 (61), surpassed only by 2006/07 (65) and each of the last 3 years (68, 75, 71).

(Feel free to correct if you spot a meringue in there)

Good stuff min. Good stuff indeed. Some good stats in there. Before the turn of the year nobody would have expected the current return. Pro-rated the 92/92 87 goals would be 75. A good couple of wins tonight and Sunday and that could be doable, which would be spectacular. Four more wins and we'll have sealed second spot in what would be considered a pretty damn good season. Hopefully we'll get to a final ina, as we definitely deserve it (we currently have one more point than the Hibees this season too). I'll happily lose to the Tims in the league in return for a cup final victory. We deserve a couple of records to be broken given some of our huge wins, and probably deserve a cup ina.

Assuming it turns out to be an afc v victim fc final I would really be wanting to beat them in the last league game, it's been a while and it would be a great weight off the back for the team to know we can actually defeat them.  Especially after the last cup final....

I didn't actually realise until i started pulling the stats together just how well we are doing this season - with all the hype on how a vastly wealthier Tic are steamrolling the league, there is a danger of massively underrating what this Dons team is achieving.

If anything, it makes winning the Scottish Cup all the more essential, as we could end up having a record-breaking team being dismissed as merely also-rans.  That's the sort of thing that makes players move on.

I was at both games. Storey's is definitely a worse miss, but I didn't celebrate for several seconds before realising he'd missed unlike Iwelumo's one. His was far more costly. I definitely haven't seen worse than Storey's ever. Not even playing at Sports Village.

Funnily enough a couple of days ago i saw this clip posted on FB or something and then spent a bit of time looking at other hilarious misses.

Little did i know i was about to experience the worst miss i've ever witnessed live.

As for that miss by Iwelumo, i once asked Frank McDougall when he had the Criterion about Iwelumo's miss and that i thought he went with it with the wrong foot. Frank insists that any decent striker would have gone with the same foot as Iwelumo. I suppose he knows better than me.  :-\

Think we've only conceded 8 goals at home this season (same number as Motherwell have conceded at Pittodrie this season too ), do you know how that stacks up against previous seasons OD?

Hmm, nae seen any sources that could be easily pulled from but i'll have a wee look later ;)

What i can tell you though is that on Friday, Andy Considine's hattrick moved him into the top 100 Dons goalscorers of all time (97th with 25 goals), pushing Chris Maguire (24 goals) out of the list to 101st.

On the same night, Niall McGinn moved to joint 25th with the legendary Darren "Altitude" Mackie on 68 goals, which surely gives him enough incentive to sign a new contract to make sure he at least scores one more goal.

Finally on the goalscoring front, Gary Warren's fine strike last night moved him level with Miles Storey in goals scored for Aberdeen this season (1).

So, with the league over, how did we do?

With 0 games remaining:

Most Wins: 24 - BEST IN 24 YEARS, =6TH ALL-TIME - beats last years total (23) for the highest total since 1992/93 (27), when we played 44 games in a season.  Only beaten by the 80s.

Highest Goal Difference: +39 -  BEST IN 24 YEARS. 11TH ALL-TIME - highest since 1992/93 (+51 over 44 games).  The all-time record is 1984/85 (+63 in 36 games!).

Most Points:  76 - BEST ALL-TIME - beats previous record by 1 point for new all-time record.  ;D

One remaining record is that previously, we have only managed to reach runners-up/finalists or better in all 3 Scottish competitions in one season twice in our history - 1989/90 (2nd in league, League & Scottish cup winners) and 1992/93 (runners-up in everything).

This season is the 3rd time, and i would happily swap all the achievements above to go one better than 92/93 in this one, and finish with a cup.

An add-on to this thread:

According to the Evening Express (they sort of skip past the fact that 2017 hasn't finished yet)

Aberdeen have delivered 28 wins from 40 matches during 2017 - a win percentage of 70% - which is the third highest for a calendar year in the history of the club.

2021/22 update: I'd forgotten about this thread until someone reminded me of it recently, and I thought it would be interesting in a hot-needles-under the nails kind of way to compare this season's progress with where we were 5 years ago.  How time flies when you're having, well.. never mind.

2016/17 stats in quotes, 2021/22 stats underneath.

2021/22:

Currently on 8 (eight). Two more wins needed from the remaining eight games to avoid sharing the honour of the worst record (9 wins – 2003/4, 2011/12) since the league switched back to 38 games in 2000/01.  Failure to win any would secure joint 5th worst record in Dons history with 1905/06 (8 out of 30 games), and worst in 73 years, only beaten by 1948/49 (7 out of 30 games), 1916/17 (7 out of 38 games) and the inaugural 1904/1905 season (7 out of 22 games).  However, win all 8 and we can bask in historical mediocrity instead, as the average for all 38 game seasons is 15.78 wins.

Fewest Draws: Our current total (4) is the lowest since 1957/58 (2).  We had 5 last year.

2021/22:

Currently 8.  Nothing to see here, we would have to draw all of our remaining eight games to worsen the current record for most draws in a 38 game season (15 – 2005/6, 2012/13), and the thrill-a-minute season that was 1993-94 is still untouchable with a mesmerising 21 draws (out of 44 games).  Average for a 38 game season is 8.9.

Fewest Defeats: Our current total (7) is the lowest since 1993/94 (6).  Next closest is from 2 years ago, 2014/15 (9).

2021/22:

Currently 14. Already comfortably the most defeats in a season for a decade, back to 2011/12 (15 losses).  However we would need to lose 6 of the last 8 matches to equal the horror shows of 2003/4 and 2010/11 (22 losses), while losing all 8 would equal the most defeats in the clubs history (24 losses in 38 games – 1916/17).

2021/22:

Currently 33.  Last season saw us equal the worst goalscoring record in Dons history (36 goals – 1916/17, 2009/10, 2011/12, 2020/21). We currently have 3 less than that.  Average for a 38 game season is 57, so a hat-trick in each of our remaining games will see us hit par.

2021/22:

Currently 38.  This is the same as last season, and is the one positive stat we have, as this century only 3 other seasons have been more miserly – 2014/15 (33), 2016/17 (35) and 2017/18 (37).  Now if we could only score goals…

2021/22:

Currently 32.  3 points from 24 needed to avoid setting a new record for worst points total in the 3-points-a-game era (1994/5 onwards), with 1999/2000 (33 points in 36 games) and 2003/4 (34 points in 38 games) the years to beat.  We will need to win all 24 points just to equal last year’s total of 56.  The highest total in Dons history (76)?  Well, that was 5 years ago…

Apologies, somebody must have slipped me an Ibrox calculator for this part.  14 + 8 does of course = 22, not 24 😶

We've received a complaint from a Mr C Brown, who objects to you describing a greater number of draws as somehow worse.

On an unrelated matter, do you have corner stats for the 2012/13 Vs this season and five years ago?
